Standards Based Teaching
and LearningIn the Columbus Diocese, we are dedicated to implementing standards-based teaching and learning practices in our classrooms. These practices reflect our essential commitment to provide students with more than just a rigorous academic curriculum; we aim to prepare them for high school, college, and beyond. Catholic education must also empower students to become active members of society as Disciples of Christ, fostering a sense of service and encouraging them to live the Gospel in their daily interactions with others. Therefore, we must prioritize both the moral and intellectual excellence of our students.

Ohio State Testing RequirementsEach year, the Ohio state law requires any student who receives EdChoice or Jon Peterson scholarship funding to take Ohio’s State Tests. All students who receive scholarship funds must take the Reading and Math tests. Additionally, students in 5th and 8th grade must take the Science test. Students’ STAR Reading and STAR Math scores count towards the state testing requirement for Reading and Math, but students in 5th and 8th grade must take the Science test. Additionally, students taking Algebra or Geometry will also be taking the state Algebra and Geometry test.
- 3rd Grade Reading Readiness test: September 14th
- 5th Grade Science test: April 22nd
- 8th Grade Science test: April 24th
- Algebra and Geometry test: May 1st

STAR Reading & Math AssessmentsSaint Agatha Schools uses multiple measures to assess the reading and math achievement of students.
It is important to measure the results against national, state and local expectations to ensure that the learned curriculum is rigorous, and students are ready for tomorrow.
Saint Agatha uses a national measuring stick as a universal screening tool. Results are used to ensure our students stand tall in comparison to other students across the country. In addition, data helps educators and parents know when students need additional learning supports. STAR Early Literacy (grade K-1) and STAR Enterprise Reading & Math (grades 2-8) results are used by teachers to monitor individual student progress. Leaders identify strengths and areas in need of improvement by use of the STAR tools, created by Renaissance Learning. -
TechnologyThe Diocese of Columbus has an Acceptable Use Policy for Technology that pertains to our Faculty and Students.
This policy is provided so that staff, community, and student users and the parents/guardians of students are aware of their responsibilities. Educational technologies must be used, both by Catholic educators and students, in a manner that is educationally appropriate and consistent with standards of electronic ethics and copyright law.
All families of students in grades K-8 must sign the Technology Acceptable Use Policy form. Both student and parent or legal guardian must sign. Parental or legal guardian signatures indicate you are granting permission for your child to have access to all District technology resources available for student's use.
All classrooms are equipped with SMART Interactive televisions that provide our students with learning tools to achieve academic success. Grades 4-8 students have 1:1 Chromebooks and grades K-3 use iPads in the classrooms.
