St. Charles Preparatory School has four members of its senior class named 2017-2018 National Merit Semifinalists. These young men qualified for the National Merit Scholarship program, based on their scores on the Pre-Scholastic Aptitude/National Merit Qualifying Test they took last year as St. Charles juniors. Of the more than 1.6 million high school students who took the test, approximately 16,000 were named Semifinalists. They are now competing with students nationwide for National Merit Scholarships totaling more than $33 million that will be offered in the spring.
Henry Valachovic ’18 is the son of Stephen ’83 and Lori Valachovic of Columbus. He attended St. Agatha School and is a member of St. Agatha parish. He plans to study mechanical or aerospace engineering and is applying to Princeton University, Purdue University, the University of Notre Dame and Vanderbilt University.
Henry is a member of the St. Charles Soccer Team and as a junior helped lead the team to the Division I state finals. He is a member of the Borromean Chapter of the National Honor Society, the Engineering Team a four-time State History Day qualifier. He is a Eucharistic minister at St. Charles and a regular altar server at St. Agatha Church. He has achieved the rank of Eagle Scout and volunteers at the Run the Race Farm.
