Volunteer

Saint Agatha School boasts the most dedicated and energetic parents imaginable. Our parents volunteer countless hours to ensure our vibrant school community continues to thrive. 

Parents are welcome to volunteer in various ways at Saint Agatha School. Under Section 109.575 of the Ohio Revised Code and the rules of the Catholic Diocese, all volunteers who have care, custody, and control of students must have two things on file:

1. A current Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI) criminal background check.

2. The Diocese requires that volunteers attend the “Protecting God’s Children” workshop.

The website for the Columbus Diocese contains a Code of Conduct for Volunteers including the following:

• Volunteers faithfully represent and practice the teachings of the Catholic Church with integrity in word and action.
• Volunteers respect confidentiality.
• Volunteers support the rights and roles of parents while ministering to the needs and concerns of minors.
• Volunteers are aware of and comply with all applicable Parish, organizational and/or Diocesan policies with special attention to sexual misconduct, safety, transportation, parental permission, and medical emergency policies.
• Unless otherwise expressly permitted, the possession or consumption of alcohol shall not be allowed at any school-sponsored event held on or off of Saint Agatha's property. 
• School-sponsored events shall include all sports activities, fundraising events, or any other type of event held in connection with Saint Agatha School. In such cases where there are school-sponsored events where the possession and consumption of alcohol is permitted, Saint Agatha’s alcohol policy shall be consistent with that of the state law of Ohio.

Under Section 109.575 of the Ohio Revised Code, and the rules of the Catholic Diocese, all volunteers who have care, custody, and control of students must have two things on file:

Children workshop:

1. Select “Diocese of Columbus” as your organization
2. Click “I would like to attend a Protecting God’s Children Session,” complete the form for the location, and then submit.
3. As part of your registration for PGC, after you select your session, you will be directed to an on-line background check provider's site (Selection.com/Fastrax) to submit an online background check. The cost of this report is $25 and is a one-time fee.

2. Bureau of Criminal Investigation Criminal Background Check:

• Select “I HAVE A CODE”
• Enter the access code for the specific role you fulfill and verify the code for the Diocese of Columbus  
• Volunteer resident of OH > 5 years - BCI only - use code IGHWKX   - $37 fee
• Volunteer resident of OH < 5 years - BCI & FBI - use code IGHWMZ - $70 fee
• Search for a location by Zip code
• Schedule a Time
• Register your Information
• Enter Payment Information
• Go to the appointment and get fingerprinted with your appointment ID
• Once your information is sent to the Diocese of Columbus Safe Environment Office, and verified by our parish office,  you will be able to volunteer.*
